Christmas Invitations Can Travel the World

When most people think about Christmas invitations, they don’t look at the invitation and say, “What started the invitation?” Well, it’s simpler than most may realize.  The origin of the word ‘invitation’ dates back to 1590–1600 century and is Latin deriving from the word invitatus or invitare meaning “the spoken or written form in which a person is invited.”

Invitations for Christmas and other events were once spoken to one another.   You or someone in your family or workers would go from home to home and invite people personally.  But, as villages became larger and travel became easier, actual written invitations were made common.

The path which Christmas invitations have taken over time is actually quite fascinating.  It’s sometimes difficult to realize that the changes we have made throughout history, such as cars, printing presses, computers, mail delivery systems and even ink have all had an impact on something as small and simple as the invitation.  The best part of all these innovations is that we can all now afford elegant, gorgeous, fun and inviting Christmas invitations that we can send to anyone, anywhere.  Imagine if you lived in California and tried to send out an invitation to someone in France back in the 1700’s? It would take a very long time for that invitation to be received and the possibility that they would be able to cross the oceans to come to a party would be extremely slim and costly.

But, today, people still need invitations slightly early so they can get time off work and possibly save for travel and lodging.  But, with airplanes, cars, hotels and paid vacations, the possibilities are greater.Christmas Invitations

Sending Christmas invitations to all your friends and family, no matter where they live, is a possibility made available by innovations that the invitation traveled in silence with.
